Welcome to WorkoutPal. By downloading, accessing, or using the WorkoutPal mobile application, you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service.

1. Acceptance of Terms

By creating an account or using WorkoutPal, you agree to these terms and our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the app.

2. Description of Service

WorkoutPal is a fitness and nutrition tracking application that uses artificial intelligence to generate personalized workout plans, meal plans, and coaching guidance. The app allows you to track workouts, log meals, monitor progress, and receive AI-powered fitness advice.

3. Age Requirements and Teen Safe Mode

You must be at least 13 years old to use WorkoutPal. By creating an account, you confirm that you meet this minimum age requirement.

3a. Teen Safe Mode (Ages 13 to 17)

• No weight-loss or body-composition goals: Teens are limited to fitness-oriented goals such as getting stronger, improving endurance, and building healthy habits. Weight-loss, muscle-gain, and body-recomposition goals are not available.
• No target weight tracking: The app does not collect, store, or display target weight information for teen users.
• Calorie & macro visibility — ages 13 to 15: Calorie counts, macro breakdowns (protein, carbs, fat), and calorie summaries are hidden throughout the app, including in meal cards, meal detail sheets, daily summaries, and nutrition charts. These users instead see a habit-based dashboard focused on water intake, sleep, workout completion, and daily movement.
• Calorie & macro visibility — ages 16 to 17: Users aged 16 to 17 can see a neutral display of the calories and macros they have already consumed. The app does not recommend or impose a calorie target, deficit, surplus, or "remaining" amount; however, these users may optionally set their own private calorie intake goal for self-tracking.
• No weight charts or body-fat estimates: Weight trend charts, body-fat percentage estimates, confidence meters, and weight projection tools are not displayed for teen users.
• No progress photos: The body progress photo feature is disabled for teen users.
• Age-appropriate AI coaching: The AI coach provides guidance focused on balanced eating, enjoyment of movement, and building sustainable habits rather than deficit-based or surplus-based nutrition advice.
• Balanced meal plans: AI-generated meal plans for teens emphasize variety, balanced nutrition, and regular meals rather than calorie targets or restrictive eating patterns.

Teen Safe Mode cannot be disabled by the user. It is automatically enforced based on the date of birth provided during account creation, and the applicable tier updates automatically as the user ages until they turn 18.

3b. Parental Awareness

If you are a parent or guardian of a teen user, we encourage you to review these terms and our Privacy Policy. While we do not require parental consent for users aged 13 and above, we have designed Teen Safe Mode to provide a safe, positive experience focused on healthy habits rather than weight or appearance metrics.

4. Health and Fitness Disclaimer

WorkoutPal provides fitness and nutrition information for educational and informational purposes only. It is not a substitute for professional medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment. Always consult a qualified healthcare professional before starting any fitness or nutrition program, especially if you have pre-existing health conditions.

• AI-generated plans and nutrition estimates are approximations and should not be treated as medical prescriptions.
• Calorie and macro estimates from photo analysis are estimates only and may not be accurate.
• Body composition estimates from photos are approximations and should not be used for medical decisions.
• Stop exercising immediately if you experience pain, dizziness, or discomfort and consult a healthcare provider.
• For teen users: all AI-generated content is reviewed for age-appropriateness and avoids promoting restrictive eating, extreme exercise, or body-image pressure.

5. User Accounts

You must provide accurate information when creating an account, including your correct date of birth. Providing a false date of birth to circumvent age-based safety features (such as Teen Safe Mode) is a violation of these terms. You are responsible for maintaining the security of your account credentials.

6. Subscriptions and Payments

• WorkoutPal offers both free and premium (Pro) tiers.
• Subscriptions are managed through Apple's App Store and are subject to its terms.
• Subscriptions auto-renew unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the end of the current billing period.
• You can manage or cancel your subscription through your device's subscription settings.
• Refunds are handled by Apple according to its refund policy.

7. User Content

You retain ownership of content you create within the app (photos, logs, etc.). By using WorkoutPal, you grant us a limited license to process this content to provide the service, including sending photos and descriptions to AI services for analysis.

For teen users: progress photo uploads are disabled. Meal photos are used for nutritional analysis; for users aged 13 to 15, calorie and macro information is not displayed back to the user, while users aged 16 to 17 may see a neutral display of the calories and macros they have already consumed.

8. Acceptable Use

You agree not to:

• Use the app for any unlawful purpose.
• Attempt to reverse engineer, decompile, or disassemble the app.
• Upload harmful, offensive, or inappropriate content.
• Attempt to gain unauthorized access to our systems or other users' accounts.
• Use the AI coach for purposes unrelated to fitness and health.
• Provide a false date of birth to bypass age-related safety features.
• Attempt to circumvent or disable Teen Safe Mode protections.

9. AI-Generated Content

WorkoutPal uses artificial intelligence to generate workout plans, meal plans, coaching advice, and food analysis. You acknowledge that:

• AI-generated content is algorithmic and may contain errors or inaccuracies.
• AI outputs should not replace professional medical, nutritional, or fitness advice.
• For teen users, AI-generated content is filtered to exclude calorie-focused, weight-loss-focused, or body-image-related guidance.
• We do not guarantee the accuracy of nutritional estimates, body composition analysis, or exercise recommendations.

10. Data Encryption and Security

We encrypt sensitive user data including progress photos and personal health information. We use HTTPS for all data transmission, implement rate limiting to prevent abuse, and follow industry-standard security practices. For more details, see our Privacy Policy.

11. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, WorkoutPal and its creators shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, including but not limited to personal injury, health complications, loss of data, or loss of profits arising from your use of the app.

12. Account Deletion

You may delete your account at any time from the app settings. Account deletion permanently removes all your data including your profile, workout history, meal logs, progress photos, and chat history. This action cannot be undone.

13. Changes to Terms

We reserve the right to modify these terms at any time. We will notify users of material changes through the app or by email. Continued use of WorkoutPal after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated terms.

14. Termination

We may suspend or terminate your account if you violate these terms. Upon termination, your right to use the app ceases immediately.
